Hasten the Moment

Together they traveled a road paved by God,

Together toward Bethlehem’s stable they trod.

From Gabriel’s visit, to Mary’s consent,

With Joseph’s resolve, to the future they went.

They faithfully followed the plan from above

To hasten God’s moment of love.

Refrain:

To hasten the moment that God had designed

That moment of moments, that ends broken time.

Creation refashioned by Word-enfleshed birth:

The moment Christ hastened to earth.

His childhood completed, to Jordan he went

At John’s hand the Spirit from heaven was sent.

The heaven’s were opened, God’s voice split the cloud

“My Son, the beloved” was heard by the crowd.

And now every stream, every font, cannot cease

To hasten God’s moment of peace.

Refrain:

To hasten the moment that God had designed

That moment of moments, that ends broken time.

Creation refashioned by Word-enfleshed birth:

The moment Christ hastened to earth.

Through small towns and cities, for one stretch of time,

His ministry challenged, his mercy deemed crime,

With stories and blessings, with new ways to see,

He offered God’s mercy, a gift that was free.

His kindness, like light, flooded each sinner’s face

To hasten God’s moment of grace.

Refrain:

To hasten the moment that God had designed

That moment of moments, that ends broken time.

Creation refashioned by Word-enfleshed birth:

The moment Christ hastened to earth.

His life scourged by cynics, his loved scoffed by spite,

The powers he threatened extinguished his might.

By crossed crucifixion, the world wished him dead,

But justice and kindness were reborn instead.

They buried his flesh, but could not end his strife

To hasten God’s moment of life.

Refrain:

To hasten the moment that God had designed

That moment of moments, that ends broken time.

Creation refashioned by Word-enfleshed birth:

The moment Christ hastened to earth.
